Database right

Since 21 July 1999, databases have been protected by the Databankwet (Dutch Database Protection Act). No application or registration is required for such protection. A database right gives the producer of the database the exclusive right to grant permission for consulting or reusing any substantial part of the database.

Database protection is valid for a period of 15 years as from the date of completion of the database. However, a substantial change in the database will give rise to a new database right.
